Alex Diambrini was born Alessandro Diambrini-Palazzi in Rome Italy.
His father Giordano, a renowned Physicist and his mother Elena Pompili,
a writer/novelist and literary critic in Italy. They moved to Genoa
in northern Italy when Alex was 7 years old. At this age Alex received
his first Beatles single "Please Please Me"/"Ask
me why" from his older cousin. From that point on, Alex's life
was to be heavily influenced by music.
At the age of 10 his family moved to the USA in Ithaca/N.Y. Attending
public school for 3 years in the US at the end of the 60s, was to
be a musically mind opening experience for Alex. Watching Joni Mitchell
play live at the age of 12. Being literally mesmerized by the contemporary
music of the Beatles, Hendrix, Simon & Garfunkel, Miles Davis,
Weather Report, Blood Sweat & Tears, CCR, Led Zeppelin, NRBQ,
Muddy Waters, Lightning Hopkins, Charlie Christian and Wes Montgomery.
Returning to Genoa/Italy in 1971, Alex started avidly and obsessively
practicing and mastering the guitar, inspired and heavily influenced
by Hendrix, Page, Harrison, Steve Howe, John McLaughlin and Ralph
Towner's styles. Alex played his first paid gig at an open air street
fair in Genoa/Italy at the age of 16 which included a live rendition
of "Highway Star" by Deep Purple and Hendrix's "Foxey
Lady". After a period of intense Progressive Rock passion for
Yes, ELP, Genesis, Jon Hiseman Tempest/Allan Holdsworth, Frank Zappa,
Mahavishnu Orchestra, Jeff Beck, Gentle Giant, Soft Machine, Jethro
Tull, Van der Graaf Generator, Atomic Rooster, etc., Alex was already
a regular of the Genoa/Italy music scene playing a steady number
of concerts with his original Progressive Rock Group "Struttura
e Forma" between the age of 16 and 19.
Obtaining his first Music Theory Diploma at the "Paganini"
Conservatory of Music in Genoa at the age of 19 (where he also studied
with Classical Guitarist Carlo Palladino), Alex then moved to Geneva/Switzerland
where he started his 6 years of Classical Guitar and Music Theory
studies at the prestigious Geneva "Conservatory of Music"
with guitarists Dusan Bogdanovich, Maria Livia Sao-Marcos and female
Conductor Maroussia Le Marc' Hadour. During this period of time,
Alex's musical influences shifted more towards Heavy Metal. Alex
started working as a freelance guitarist but also formed his legendary
Hard Rock trio "The Bridge" intermittently touring Europe
while continuing his Classical music studies.
Tired and burned out of the grueling Heavy Metal scene and the
debauchery of the lifestyle associated with it, along with the pressure
of completing his Classical studies, Alex moved to Los Angeles in
1984. His musical horizons now newly oriented towards R&B/Jazz//Funk/Pop/World
music, he started a prolific creative music career along with years
of work as a freelance guitarist, composing, recording and performing
with a variety of different groups, artists & producers, and
yielded one vinyl record and 2 CD releases.
For a chronological detailed list of Alex's work, see
this page, or it would be too long to detail biographically.
As in every intense music career, Alex has dozens of crazy stories
to tell. But we'll leave that to when he'll decide to write and
publish the full story of his life.
Alex currently resides and works as a Guitarist in Los Angeles
but also regularly works in Italy and Europe. He's very close to
his 2 children which he adores: Taylor Sky and Jordan Christian. Music, as life does, keeps moving on ... and every note played
drifts away in the fleeting moment ....
